Conversation Hearts

As I opened a box of Valentine Sweethearts candies, my taste buds ignited. I poured out all of the little heart-shaped candies onto a napkin with anticipation of eating the sugary delights. But before I did, I read the messages on each one. Be Mine. I Love You. Super Star. Go For It. U Got This. True Love. Push Thru. Fearless. Soul Mate. Crush On U. Bestie. U R Cute.

As I begin to eat the sugary delights, I started thinking about the heart-shaped messages in this box of candy. The messages gave encouragement and I found myself playfully responding to them as I picked each one up and crunched on it.

Be mine… Yep, right in my tummy…

I Love You… Awww,I love me too…

Super Star…Well I hate to brag but…

Go for it… I think I will
(as I gulped down another one) …

U Got This… True, I got this…

True love… What’s truer love than sitting here eating candy by myself???

Push through… Well if you insist, I guess I will push thru eating this entire box…

Fearless… Of course I am fearless…

Soul mate… Awww, why thank you…

Crush On U… Awww, I got a crush on me too…

Bestie… Cheers to my Besties (as I pop another piece of candy in my mouth)…

U R Cute… Yes I am. I am definitely CUTE!

While enjoying some alone time, candy, and the fun little messages, I realized two things. First, the conversation hearts did what they were supposed to do…create conversation. I conversed with a box of heart-shaped candies that brought delight, fun, and tasted sweet when I chewed on them. Second, the Bible provides the same thing, but with so much more.

God’s Word contains so many messages to encourage us daily. The messages speak of His great and endless love for us designed to penetrate our hearts and create conversations with Him.

I will never leave you or forsake you…
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go…
I will watch over you…
I will sustain you and rescue you…
I will strengthen you and help you…
I have engraved you on the palms of My hands…
Call to Me and I will answer you…
I will rejoice over you with singing…
I love you so much I gave My only begotten Son to die for you…

One of the primary differences surrounding the messages in the box of candy and the messages in the Bible center around the author. The unknown author of the candy box sends out random messages because he or she does not personally know you. So, the messages neglect to focus on you specifically. But we know the author of the Bible. The source of the messages comes from our Heavenly Father who personally knows all about you and His messages speak specifically to your heart.

But you must open the Bible to allow your spiritual taste buds to ignite. Read the messages and chew on them. The heart-shaped messages will add truth, encouragement, delight, fun and sweetness in your life. They will also do what they were designed to do…create meaningful conversations with the Lord.

I don’t know about you, but as much as I like candy, absolutely nothing compares to the sweetness of God’s Word. It penetrates my heart, allows me to converse with Him, and brings so much encouragement to help me live out this life. I will continue to chew on it daily. Why? Simply …

Happy Valentine’s Day
