Rudolph or Jesus
Rudolph or Jesus?
What???
I asked the same question when the Holy Spirit gave me this title. How does Rudolph relate to Jesus? The title came after listening and singing along with the song on the radio. Because God hard-wired me this way, it didn’t take much to trigger a comparison, and frankly, with everything going on this year, we need a little fun to lighten up the season. So, come on…sing along with me.
Rudolph the red-nose reindeer, had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer, use to laugh and call him names,
They never let poor Rudolph, join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say,
Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then how the reindeer loved him, as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nose reindeer, you’ll go down in history.
Rudolph’s unique red nose made him different from all the other reindeer. In fact, he was one-of-a-kind. His nose shone so brightly that if you came into his presence, you would see the brightness of it. But Rudolph’s friends, his coach, and village ridiculed and laughed at him. They called him names and refused to interact with him. He lived ostracized and rejected by his own.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve, when the darkness filled the sky interfering with the ability to deliver gifts, all the other reindeer lost hope. But Santa realized only one thing could save that night…Rudolph’s red-glowing nose (something about the color red)! His nose would provide the light needed to guide the sleigh through the darkness. His uniqueness served a purpose that only he could fulfill. Oh, how the reindeer then loved and accepted him with shouts of glee. He saved Christmas by willingly doing what only he could do in spite of what was done to him.
Likewise, Jesus’ unique nature made Him different from everyone else. In fact, He was, is, and will always be one-of-a-kind. His essence shines so brightly that if you enter into His presence, you can’t help but feel His warm embrace. But His people ridiculed and laughed at Him. They called Him names and refuse to accept Him. Jesus lived rejected by His own.
“He came into His own, and His own received Him not.”
Then one starry Friday eve, as darkness and sin filled the earth, hope for God’s gift to man was all but lost. God realized only one person could save the world—Jesus. His red blood would atone for our sins, not for a night, but for eternity, and provide the light needed to guide us in a dark and fallen world. Jesus’ uniqueness could only be fulfilled by Him. Jesus saved us by willingly doing what only He could do in spite of what was done to Him. His death on the cross for our sins and resurrection from the grave brought salvation to the entire world.
So, the story of Rudolph or Jesus? I don’t know about you, but Oh, how I love Him! I shout with praise, honor, and glory to His name. The story of Rudolph told once a year may be fun, but its fictional. Jesus is real and can save anyone who places their trust in His finished work on the cross. Because of His story, I can get through all my foggy and dark nights. Why? Simply…
So, come on…sing along with me. Same tune as Rudolph.
Jesus, our Lord and Savior, God’s only begotten Son,
And if you ever meet Him, you would know He was the One.
All of the unbelievers, use to mock and call Him names,
They never let King Jesus, come into their hearts to reign.
Then one foggy dark Friday, His Father came to say,
Jesus, with your precious blood, Won’t you show the world Our love?
Then how the redeemed loves Him, as we shout with praise and glee,
Jesus, our Lord and Savior, You gave us the victory!
