My Endless Love
The famous song, “Endless Love” written by Lionel Richie chimes in my head as Valentine’s Day approaches. Richie originally recorded the song in 1981 as a duet between himself and fellow R & B singer Diana Ross. The singers simply declared their “endless love” for each other.
My love, there's only you in my life…The only thing that's bright…
My first love… You’re every breath that I take…You're every step I make
And I, I want to share…All my love with you…. No one else will do
And your eyes, your eyes, your eyes…They tell me how much you care…Ooh yes,
You will always be………………. My endless love…………………………
Two hearts…Two hearts that beat as one…Our lives have just begun
Forever (Oh)…I'll hold you close in my arms…I can't resist your charms
And love, oh love…I'll be a fool, for you I'm sure…You know I don't mind (Oh)
You know I don't mind…'Cause you,…You mean the world to me (Oh)…I know I know
I've found, I've found in you…….. My endless love…………………………...
We all desire to find our endless love…the one person who brightens up our life, who takes our breath away, who holds a place in our heart and makes us feel like no one else will do. The one person who will hold us close in their hearts and don’t mind doing what it takes to show us that we mean the world to them even if the things seem foolish or we don’t understand their ways. We yearn to find our endless love…that person whose love for us will never end.
I found that person on this earth in the form of my husband Tony. Our hearts beat as one and yes, over the years, he managed to do a lot of not-so-charming-foolish things. So his love lacks perfection, yet I found in him my earthly endless love. But I realize when we transition from this earth to our heavenly home, our human love will end. The imperfect love we experience here on earth really won’t last forever.
But a truly perfect and endless love exists. It comes from God. We serve a perfect God and God is love and God is eternal; therefore, love is eternal…forever…. endless. 1 Corinthians 13:13 explains it well. “But now abide faith hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” Why is love the greatest? Isn’t faith and hope essential to the believer?
Faith represents a firm belief and trust in someone or something for which no evidence may exists. Hebrews 11: 1 explains faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hope denotes expectation…to expect something with desire. Hope mirrors faith; for if you can see hope or faith, there is no need for either. Romans 8:24 reminds us that “For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one also hope for what he sees?”
So yes, faith and hope remain essential to the believer. Your firm belief and trust in the finish work of Christ ensures your salvation. We’re probably all familiar with Ephesians 2:8 which says, ”For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is a gift from God…” Your salvation includes an inheritance with many benefits which you hope to receive here on earth and in eternity by being a part of Gods’ family.
One day, our need for faith and hope will end. In heaven, faith will get swallowed up by sight. When we see Jesus face to face and all that He prepared for us, our hopes will be realized.
But love…love will last forever. His perfect love will engulf us. You and I will experience overwhelming, amazing, exciting, astonishing and unspeakable love that never wanes or vanishes. It will be eternal………………. it will be forever………………… it will be endless!
I don’t know about you, but based on that kind of love, the lyrics in the song mimic my sentiments.
Lord, You mean the world to me (Oh)…I know I know
I've found, I've found in you Jesus……... My endless love…………………………....
Why? Simply…
