On Again-Off Again Love

Some of you may remember a song by the Stylistics titled “Break Up To Make Up.” The lyrics of this song explained the nature of the love relationship between this man and woman.

Tell me what's wrong with you now, tell me why I
Never seem to make you happy though heaven knows I try
What does it take to please you?
Tell me just how
I can satisfy you woman, you're drivin' me wild

Chorus: Break up to make up, that's all we do
First you love me, then you hate me
That's a game for fools
Break up to make up, that's all we do
First you love me, then you hate me
That's a game for fools

When I come home from workin', you're on the phone
Talkin' about how bad I treat you, now tell me I'm wrong
You say it's me who argues, I'll say it's you
We have got to get together or baby, we're through (Chorus twice)

Perhaps you know a man and a woman who function as a “on again-off again” couple. This relationship lacks commitment. Unsure of how the other person feels about them from day to day poses a real problem. No logical person wants a spouse or potential spouse who might leave at any time without any reason. We yearn for certainty, but many people experience uncertainty about where they stand in a relationship with someone.

So if you desire complete certainty in a relationship, make a life changing decision to choose Jesus Christ. You will always be sure how He feels about you. There is no “off again” time when you engage in a relationship with Him. Jesus will never break up to make up with you. He promised to never leave you or forsake you and you can trust His word (Hebrews 13:5).

Sadly, we often break up with Him. When we do, He still loves us. He never hates us. And He patiently waits for us. The only thing He hates is sin and when we make up (ie, confess our sins), He remains faithful to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Jesus loves you with an everlasting love and resides with you as your constant companion. He never plays games with His love. With Jesus as your Savior and lover of your soul, you can trust that He will be faithful to you forever and you will experience complete certainty as to where you stand with Him.

I don’t know about you, but I am totally satisfied with Jesus… the greatest love of my life. I understand the nature of our relationship and never worry about an “on again-off again” love. Therefore, I can fully dedicate myself to serving Him knowing for certain nothing will separate us. Why? Simply …
